The purpose of RE-ADDRESS is to make available a wide range of American goods that are both simple and pragmatic. American steel furniture will be the principal product carried but there will also be other smaller items for sale. All will have been created outside of the contemporary design process and have been chosen to reflect a classic sensibility and economy of means. Bypassing modern design conventions and speaking in a softer voice allows these items to easily fit to any lifestyle.
The American steel furniture chosen for RE-ADDRESS has an established history of over 100 years. Its style in use industrially today - few decorative elements and highly functional - remains largely outside of trends or fashions. Not only are they objects that are mass produced and affordable but in their simplicity warm and attractive to own.
The concepts of simplicity and pragmatism embodied in this store are also intended to govern the design agenda in larger scale architectural and product design projects. The four people responsible for the store include designers and sculptors in New York and Japan.
